Have you ever started researching something cool and come across something even better? As I delved into this yesterday (belated hat tip to Robert Lamb of Stuff to Blow Your Mind), I spied a truly mind-blowing tidbit: In April, the marketing firm that partnered with Reed Street Productions to put together the “Run for Your Lives” 5K race instituted the world’s first zombie marketing division. I would say “my head just exploded” or something like that, but I think the zombies would like that just a little too much. So, who are these guys?

MGH is a Baltimore area-based marketing and communications firm that provides advertising, marketing, public relations and other media-related services to a variety of clients, but “Run for Your Lives” is the firm’s first zombie-related client. We know that there are a lot of zombie fans out there, but MGH is actually looking ahead — toward a zombie audience! According to the division’s home page, it’s “designed to connect brands to these strong, single-minded decision makers (aka, Zombies), as well as engage zombie enthusiasts and those developing products and services for the eventual zombie apocalypse.” If that wasn’t enough, the firm knows that the zombie market has a lot of growth potential: “This emerging market — one of the fastest-growing and slowest-moving in the world — is projected to comprise 80 to 90 percent of the population given a viral or curse outbreak.”

Of course, this could be little more than a tongue-in-cheek marketing ploy — and if it is, it’s awesome. Take a look at the press release (yes, really) and decide for yourself. In the meantime, I’m gonna figure out how “loud bangs” figure into a zombie-related marketing campaign. Wish me luck!
